From 1995 to 2013, Sonora has averaged 159.2 thousand tons of table grapes
(Table 1). This output is below one fifth in comparison to the 830.5 thousand tons
produced in California during the same period. While this last state has reached
slightly over one million tons at a maximum (1.227), Sonora as a record level
attained over one quarter of the above figure
i.e.
, 260.9 thousand tons. The lowest
level attained by California was 592 thousand tons. The minimum level registered
by Sonora was over one seventh of the former
i.e.
, 79.4 thousand tons.
The median output in Sonora is 140.1 thousand tons, while in California is over
five-fold
i.e.
, 774 thousand tons. Regarding fluctuations in output, California is far
more stable, with a coefficient of variation of about one half (0.19), compared to
Sonora (0.33)
However, it must be acknowledged that output in Sonora grew, on
average, at a rate of 9.3% per annum, while California expanded at almost one half
(4.2%) of its Mexican counterpart.
